Volunteer guidelines

Follow these simple guidelines, and you'll do just fine!

1

Sign in upon arrival

Sign in using the parent helper form upon arrival each week. Please do not bring other children to class (i.e. a younger sister or brother) as you are expected to participate and will not be able to fully supervise their activities.

2

Participate

Unless you are specifically told you are not needed, then you will be required to assist with the class each week. Parent Helpers are not allowed to sit down and merely observe the class. If we allow this then other parents will view this as unfair.

3

Be Courteous & Polite

Parent Helpers at no time may discipline students. Please alert the Coach or Instructor to perceived problems accordingly. ALWAYS BE COURTEOUS & POLITE WHEN TALKING WITH STUDENTS & PARENTS. Try to use a calm and reassuring tone of voice while talking to students directly.

4

Use Positive Reinforcement

Try to get in the habit of using positive reinforcement towards students whenever possible!. (i.e. "Good job, You’re doing very well")
*NEVER PUT A STUDENT DOWN*

5

Monitor for Distractions

Please be as quiet as possible! Noisy helpers will be asked to wait outside. We ask that you please report any distracting individuals to the coach or instructor if their disruptive behavior insists.

6

Follow the buddy system

Parent Helpers must always go in pairs when escorting students to bathrooms. If no other parent helpers are available, have the class secretary or advanced student assist you.
